Pretty Good Hat

A view across a lake, with clouds and trees reflected in the water

The water was quiet and still yesterday morning, with just a little smokey haze. It was a beautiful hour of paddling on the lake.

Two episodes in, I’ve decided to be Ted Lasso when I grow up.

🎮 After hearing more chat about it on this Monday’s Waypoint Radio, I started playing Remnant: From the Ashes again. I had tried it previously on console and found it frustratingly hard, but I’m glad I picked it back up on PC; it’s really good!

I’m sending up the M-x-help signal, emacs friends. I’m using doom and vim mode: occasionally emacs gets stuck with s- as a prefix to anything I enter, and I can’t figure out how to exit that mode. Trying to enter a vi command results in emacs thinking I’m typing s-:, and it similarly wrecks emacs chords. It’s weird. If I try to just close the window, emacs puts up the close confirmation dialog, and I can’t even answer that because a y or n gets prefixed with s! shrug

Screenshot of a package being tracked. It hasn’t moved in days.

If I promise the postmaster general that this isn’t a ballot, do you think he’ll find a way to get this package moving again?

Update to my micro.blog Friday Afternoon Coffee Buddies: I have switched to India Pale Ale. Do with that knowledge what you will.

Re iPad distribution for remote classes, my son’s school writes:

Your child’s 6 digit birthday is the passcode you will need to unlock your iPad.

Seems like a bad idea for the school district to use PII for a password, both for security and privacy reasons.

My wife and I were recently thumbing through some old photo books, mostly marveling at how our son has grown. One of them has this photo of her from a couple of days we spent in Park City about five years ago. I adore this photo and treasure being able to bring her a smile.
